What is the difference between Azure backup and site recovery?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 11:54 am

Site Recovery is a feature of Azure Backup that enables you to recover a virtual machine or an entire Azure cloud service to a previous state. Azure Backup, in contrast, enables you to backup your data to local storage, to a Microsoft Azure storage account, or to an external storage service.

Azure Backup also enables you to restore your data to any of these locations. Azure Backup can be used to protect your data against accidental or deliberate loss.

The main advantage of Azure Backup is that it enables you to back up data to any of the locations that Azure provides. This means that you can back up your data to the cloud, to a local storage account, or to an external storage service.

PRO TIP: Azure backup and site recovery are two different things. Azure backup is a cloud-based backup solution that helps protect your data from loss or corruption. Site recovery is a disaster recovery solution that helps you recover your data and applications if your primary Azure datacenter goes down.

Azure Backup can also be used to restore your data to any of these locations.

The main disadvantage of Azure Backup is that it is not as versatile as site recovery. Site recovery enables you to recover a virtual machine or an entire Azure cloud service to a previous state.

Azure Backup, in contrast, only enables you to back up your data to local storage, to a Microsoft Azure storage account, or to an external storage service. Azure Backup cannot be used to protect your data against accidental or deliberate loss.
