Duplicate is one of the most common commands in Illustrator, and it’s especially useful for creating copies of objects or elements. To duplicate an object or element in Illustrator, follow these steps:

1. Select the object or element you want to duplicate.

Selected sleeping emoji face

2. Click the Copy button (C) in the Illustrator toolbar. Or press the keyboard shortcut.

Select the object and copy

3. Go to the destination location where you want to place the duplicate object or element.

4. Select the object or element you just copied, and then click the Paste button (P) in the Illustrator toolbar. Or press the keyboard shortcut.

Paste the object to the new artboard

The duplicate object or element will be placed at the destination location. You can also use the keyboard shortcut for Duplicate, CMD+D (Mac), or CTRL+D (Windows), to quickly duplicate objects or elements in Illustrator.

PRO TIP: There is no shortcut for Duplicating in Illustrator. To duplicate an object, select the object and choose Edit > Duplicate.
