What Is the Use of Mask in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 1:23 am

A mask is an area of an image that is hidden from view. In Figma, a mask can be used to hide part of an image or vector object.

When you create a new image, you can choose to add a mask to it. This will give you the ability to hide certain areas of the image from view.

Masks can be useful for many different things. For example, you could use a mask to create a cutout effect in an image. Or, you could use a mask to create a transparent area in an image.

There are two types of masks in Figma: vector masks and raster masks. Vector masks are created using vector objects, while raster masks are created using raster images.

PRO TIP: Masks in Figma can be used to hide or show parts of an object. However, if not used carefully, they can create problems with alignment and spacing. Be sure to check your design carefully after applying a mask to make sure everything is still in the correct place.

Vector masks are more versatile than raster masks because they can be scaled and transformed without losing quality. Additionally, vector masks can be used to mask both vector objects and raster images.

Raster masks, on the other hand, are limited to raster images only. Raster masks cannot be scaled or transformed without losing quality.
