Joomla is a content management system (CMS) that enables you to create a website or blog from scratch, or to improve an existing website. Joomla is free and open source software released under the GNU General Public License. Joomla modules are located in the Joomla! installation directory, typically at:

/usr/share/Joomla/

The default installation directory is /usr/share/Joomla. You can change this location by setting the Joomla! global configuration variable JOMLAPATH.

Joomla! enables you to easily extend its functionality by installing third-party modules. The default installation includes more than 1,000 modules.

PRO TIP: The Joomla modules are located in the “modules” folder. This folder is located in the root directory of your Joomla installation. Do not delete or move this folder. Doing so will break your Joomla site.

You can also find modules on the Joomla! website and in the repositories of some software package managers, such as the Ubuntu Software Centre.
