Why Am I Getting Charged by Shopify?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:43 pm

There are a few potential reasons why you might be seeing charges from Shopify on your credit card statement.

First, if you are using a Shopify-powered online store, then any transactions made through that store will show up as charges from Shopify. This includes both orders placed by customers and any refunds or other adjustments made to those orders.

PRO TIP: If you are seeing a charge from Shopify on your credit card or bank statement, there are a few reasons this could be happening:

1. You may have signed up for a free trial of Shopify and your trial period has ended. When you sign up for a free trial of Shopify, we ask for your credit card details so that we can bill you once your trial ends.

2. You may have created a Shopify account and started using one of our paid plans. If you’re on a paid plan, we’ll bill you monthly in advance for the next month’s worth of service.

3. You may have made a purchase from an online store that uses Shopify to power their ecommerce site. In this case, the charge on your statement will say “Payable to [Store Name]”.

If you’re unsure why you’re seeing a charge from Shopify on your statement, we recommend contacting our support team for help.

Second, if you have a Shopify account but are not using it to run an online store, you may still be seeing charges if you have signed up for any of the company’s paid services. For example, Shopify offers a point-of-sale app that can be used to accept credit card payments in brick-and-mortar stores. If you’re using this app, then the credit card processing fees will show up as charges from Shopify on your statement.

Finally, it’s also possible that you’re seeing charges from Shopify because you’ve authorized a third-party app or service to access your Shopify account. Many of the apps available through the Shopify App Store require a monthly or annual subscription fee, and these fees will show up as charges from Shopify on your credit card statement.

If you’re unsure why you’re seeing charges from Shopify on your credit card statement, the best thing to do is contact the company directly. You can reach Shopify’s customer support team by phone or live chat, and they’ll be able to help you figure out what’s going on.
