Why can’t I edit in Photoshop from Lightroom?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 8:20 pm

In Photoshop, you can easily edit images by clicking and dragging the pixels you want to change. However, when you try to do the same thing in Lightroom, you are met with an error message that states: “Can’t Edit In Photoshop.”

There are a few possible reasons why this might be the case. One possibility is that Photoshop is using a different file format for the edited image than the original.

If you’re using a JPEG or TIFF file in Photoshop, for example, and you try to save the edited image as a PNG or JPEG, the editing process will fail.

PRO TIP: If you are trying to edit a photo in Photoshop that was originally imported into Lightroom, you may run into some problems. Photoshop may not recognize the file format of the photo, or it may not be able to access the file if it is stored in the Lightroom catalog. If you are having trouble editing a photo in Photoshop from Lightroom, try exporting the photo as a TIFF or PSD file and then importing it into Photoshop.

Another possibility is that Photoshop is using layers to manage the edits. If you try to edit an image that has been merged into a layer in Photoshop, for example, the editing process will fail.

In conclusion, if you’re trying to edit an image in Photoshop and you’re getting the “Can’t Edit In Photoshop” error message, there might be a reason for it. Sometimes, Photoshop is using a different file format for the edited image than the original, or the image may be located within a layer in Photoshop.

If you can’t resolve the issue, you might need to find another photo editing program.
