Why Can’t I Move Selection Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:59 pm

It’s a common question asked by Photoshop users – “Why can’t I move my selection?” The answer is actually quite simple: because the Move tool is not active. In order to move a selection, you need to select the Move tool from the Photoshop Toolbox.

To do this, simply click on the Move tool icon or press the letter “V” on your keyboard.

Once the Move tool is active, you will be able to click and drag your selection to wherever you want on the Photoshop canvas.

PRO TIP: If you are trying to move a selection in Photoshop and it seems like you can’t, it’s likely because you don’t have theMove Toolselected. Make sure the Move Toolis selected (it’s the topmost tool in the left toolbar), and then try moving your selection again.

Keep in mind that if you want to move a selection while keeping it in the same layer, you will need to hold down the “Shift” key on your keyboard. Otherwise, Photoshop will create a new layer for your selection.
