Why Does My Squarespace Site Say Not Secure?

PRO TIP: If you are using Squarespace to build a website, you may have noticed that the site says “Not Secure.” This is because Squarespace does not offer SSL certificates for websites. SSL certificates are what create the https:// in front of a website’s URL, and they are what allow websites to be secure. Without an SSL certificate, any information that is sent or received on your website could be intercepted by someone else. This means that your website is not safe for transactions or for exchanging sensitive information. If you need a secure website, you will need to find another platform that offers SSL certificates.

If you’ve ever visited a website that begins with “https://” instead of “http://”, you may have noticed a little padlock icon in your browser’s address bar. This icon indicates that the website is secure, and that any information you enter on the site will be encrypted before it’s transmitted.

These websites are usually e-commerce sites, or sites where users are asked to log in with a password.

But what about Squarespace sites? If you’ve ever visited a Squarespace site, you may have noticed that there is no padlock icon in the address bar.

And if you look at the site’s URL, you’ll see that it begins with “http://” instead of “https://”. So why doesn’t Squarespace use SSL encryption?

The short answer is that Squarespace doesn’t need to use SSL encryption because its platform is already secure. When you build a website on Squarespace, all of your content is stored on our servers, which are protected by multiple layers of security.

And when someone visits your site, our servers automatically serve up the most recent and secure version of your site.

So while other websites need to use SSL encryption to protect their content, Squarespace doesn’t need to because our platform is already secure. If you’re looking for a secure way to build a website, Squarespace is a great option.
