Why Does Squarespace Site Say Not Secure?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:01 am

When you visit a website, your browser checks to see if the site is secure. If it is, you’ll see a padlock icon in the address bar.

If it isn’t, you’ll see a warning that the site isn’t secure. That’s because sites that aren’t secure can be hacked, and hackers can access your personal information, like your password or your credit card number.

Squarespace sites are secure by default. That means that when you visit a Squarespace site, you’ll see a padlock icon in the address bar.

But sometimes, you might see a warning that the site isn’t secure. There are a few reasons why this might happen:

PRO TIP: If you see a message that says “Not Secure” in your browser’s address bar, it means that your connection to the website is not secure. This usually happens when you’re trying to view a website that doesn’t have an SSL certificate. SSL is a technology that encrypts the connection between your browser and the website you’re visiting. This helps to keep your information safe from hackers.
  • The site is in preview mode. When you first create a site on Squarespace, it’s automatically set to preview mode. Preview mode doesn’t use SSL, so you’ll see a warning when you visit the site. To remove the warning, publish your site.
  • The site is using an insecure connection.

If you’re using an older version ofSquarespace, your site might not be using SSL. To fix this, upgrade to the latest version of Squarespace.

  • You’ve added an insecure element to your site. Elements like form actions, third-party scripts, and iFrames can cause browsers to show security warnings. To fix this, remove or replace the insecure element.

If you see a warning that your Squarespace site isn’t secure, don’t worry! There’s an easy fix. Just follow the instructions above to remove the warning and make your site secure.
