Why Does Weebly Site Say Not Secure?

Last updated on August 22, 2023 @ 9:54 am

Weebly is a popular website builder that allows users to create and host their own websites. However, some users have reported that their Weebly site says “Not Secure” in the browser bar.

There are a few possible reasons for this:

1) The site is not using HTTPS.

Weebly sites are automatically given an HTTPS address, but the user has the option to disable it. If HTTPS is disabled, the site will say “Not Secure” in the browser bar. To enable HTTPS, go to Settings > General > SSL and click on the “Enable” button. From there, the SSL field should now be showing the word “Enabled” beside it, indicating that the SSL certificate is already active.

NOTE: An SSL certificate is used to enable HTTPS on websites, to ensure that data transferred between the web server and browser is both encrypted and secure. This guarantees not only the authenticity and integrity of exchanged data but also its privacy.

PRO TIP: Weebly sites may say “Not Secure” for a number of reasons. The most common reason is that the site is not using a secure (https) connection. This means that any information you enter on the site, including passwords and credit card information, could be intercepted by third parties. Weebly also recommends that you use a strong password and set up Two-Factor Authentication to help protect your account.

2) The site is not hosted by Weebly.

If your Weebly site is not hosted by Weebly (i.e., you’re using a custom domain), you’ll need to purchase and install an SSL certificate for your domain in order for the site to say “Secure” in the browser bar. For more information on how to do this, please contact your domain provider.
