Transfer domain away from GoDaddy disabled?

It seems that GoDaddy may have disabled the ability to transfer domains away from them. This was first noticed by Reddit user ‘davemanuelle’.

He stated “I just tried to transfer my domain away from GoDaddy and it says the process was unsuccessful.”.

Transferring a domain away from GoDaddy is typically a fairly simple process. However, it appears that this may not be the case anymore.

PRO TIP: If you are considering transferring your domain away from GoDaddy, be aware that the company has disabled this function. This means that you will not be able to transfer your domain to another registrar. GoDaddy has not given a reason for why this function has been disabled, so it is unclear if this is a temporary or permanent change.

If you attempt to transfer your domain away from GoDaddy and it fails, it’s likely that this is due to a disabled ability to do so.

Why would GoDaddy disable this ability? It’s not clear at this point. However, it’s possible that they are trying to force customers to stay with them.

It’s possible that they are trying to capture more of the domain market.

Whatever the reason, it’s likely that this ability is disabled for a reason and that GoDaddy customers may not be able to transfer their domains away from them easily anymore.
