Can Anyone View a Figma File?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 8:08 pm

Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool – and it’s free! That’s right, unlike many other popular design tools, Figma is available for use without a subscription.

You can use Figma to design anything from low-fidelity wireframes to detailed production designs, and because it’s all done in the browser, there’s no need to download any extra software. Plus, Figma files can be easily shared with anyone – whether they use Figma or not.

So, can anyone view a Figma file?

The short answer is yes – as long as you have the link to the file, anyone can view it. But there are a few things to keep in mind when sharing your work:

PRO TIP: Figma is a great tool for collaborating on design projects, but it’s important to be aware of the privacy settings for each file. By default, anyone with the link can view a Figma file, so be careful who you share links with. If you want to limit access to a file, you can change the privacy settings to ‘Only people with the link can comment’ or ‘Only people with the link can view.’
  • Only people with the link can access your file. By default, only people who have the link to your file can view it. If you want to share your file more widely, you can change the sharing settings to allow anyone with the link to edit or comment on your design.
  • Viewers will need a Figma account. Even if you share your file with view-only permissions, viewers will need to create a free Figma account in order to see it.

This is because all files are stored in the cloud, so viewers need an account in order to access them.

  • You can share individual frames or whole documents. When sharing a Figma file, you have the option of sharing an individual frame or the entire document. This is helpful if you only want someone to see a specific part of your design, or if you want them to have access to the whole thing.

So there you have it – anyone with the link can view your Figma file, but they will need a Figma account to do so. And remember, you can always control who has access to your file by changing the sharing settings.
