AWS can access your KMS keys if you use the AWS Key Management Service (KMS) to securely store your keys. You can use the AWS Key Management Service to create, manage, and archive keys for use with AWS services. You can also use the AWS Key Management Service to encrypt your keys and protect them from unauthorized access. You can encrypt your keys using the AWS Key Management Service Encryption Service. PRO TIP: If you are using the AWS Key Management Service (KMS), be aware that AWS may have access to your KMS keys. According to the AWS KMS documentation, “AWS has control of the customer master key (CMK) but does not have access to the customer’s data.” However, it is possible for AWS to gain access to your KMS keys if you give them explicit permission, or if they are required to do so by law. If you are concerned about AWS having access to your KMS keys, you should take steps to protect your keys and limit access to them.
