Can I Open CDR in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:18 pm

CDR files are vector image files created with CorelDRAW, a vector illustration and page layout program. They contain all the information needed to create a vector image, including shapes, fills, text, line art, and bitmaps.

While CDR files can be opened in Photoshop, they will not be editable as Photoshop only supports raster images. To edit a CDR file in Photoshop, it must first be converted to a raster image format such as JPG or PNG.

There are a few ways to convert a CDR file to a raster image format. One way is to open the file in CorelDRAW and export it as a JPG or PNG. Another way is to use an online converter like Zamzar (www.zamzar.com).

Simply upload the CDR file to Zamzar, choose your desired output format (JPG or PNG), and click Convert. Once the conversion is complete, you can download the new file and open it in Photoshop.

PRO TIP: CDR is a vector file format associated with CorelDRAW. Photoshop can open CDR files as Single Page Vector files, but only if the CDR file is saved in Version 7 or earlier. Otherwise, Photoshop will generate an error message.

So while you cannot open a CDR file directly in Photoshop, you can convert it to a compatible format and then edit it in Photoshop. Just remember that once you convert the file to a raster format, you will not be able to edit it in CorelDRAW anymore.

To sum up, you cannot open a CDR file directly in Photoshop as Photoshop only supports raster images. However, you can convert the CDR file into a raster image format using an online converter like Zamzar or by opening the file in CorelDRAW and exporting it as JPEG or PNG. Once converted, you can then edit the image in Photoshop.
