Can I Use a Subdomain for Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 1:28 am

A subdomain is a second-level domain that is part of a larger domain. For example, if your main domain is example.com, a subdomain could be shop.example.com.

You can use a subdomain to create a separate area for your Shopify store that is still connected to your main domain.

PRO TIP: Before using a subdomain with Shopify, please be aware of the following:

-A subdomain is a separate website, with its own unique content, design, and domain name. It is not part of your main website.

-If you use a subdomain for Shopify, your Shopify store will be hosted on that subdomain and will not be connected to your main website.

-Visitors to your main website will not be able to access your Shopify store unless they know the address of your subdomain.

-You will need to promote your Shopify store separately from your main website.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of using a subdomain for your Shopify store:

  • Your store’s URL will be longer. This can make it harder for customers to remember, and may not look as professional as a shorter URL.
  • You’ll need to set up DNS records. This can be done through your domain registrar or hosting provider.
  • There are some limitations on what you can do with your subdomain. For example, you can’t use it for email addresses or as a custom domain for another service like Tumblr.

Overall, using a subdomain for your Shopify store is perfectly fine, and can even be advantageous in some cases. Just be sure to weigh the pros and cons before making your decision.
