How Do I Create a Subdomain in Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 2:06 am

There are many reasons why you might want to create a subdomain for your Shopify store. Maybe you’re launching a new product line and want to create a separate subdomain for it.

Or perhaps you want to set up a blog on a subdomain and use it to drive traffic to your store. Whatever the reason, creating a subdomain in Shopify is easy to do.

To create a subdomain, first login to your Shopify admin panel and go to Online Store > Domains. On the Domains page, click on the Add Domain button.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to create a subdomain in Shopify, be aware that there are some potential risks involved.

First and foremost, your subdomain will be hosted on Shopify’s servers, which means that if their servers go down, your subdomain will be inaccessible. Additionally, if you ever decide to leave Shopify, transferring your subdomain to a new host can be difficult and may result in losing some of your data.

In the Add Domain dialog box, enter the name of your new subdomain in the Domain field. Then select the Customize Domain button.

On the Customize Domain page, select the Use a Subdirectory option and enter the name of your subdomain in the Subdirectory field. Click Save and your new subdomain will be created!

Now that you’ve created your subdomain, you can start using it for whatever you want. If you’re setting up a blog, be sure to check out our guide on how to set up WordPress on a Shopify subdomain.

And if you’re looking to drive traffic to your store with a new product line, be sure to promote it heavily on social media and other channels. Creating a subdomain is just the first step – it’s up to you to make it successful!
