Can You Keep Your Domain Name if You Leave Squarespace?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:55 am

When you sign up for Squarespace, you have the option to use a domain that you already own, or you can purchase a new domain through Squarespace. If you decide to leave Squarespace, you have the option to keep your domain name or transfer it to another provider.

If you purchased your domain through Squarespace, you can keep your domain name by transferring it to another registrar. To do this, you’ll need to unlock your domain and get an authorization code from Squarespace.

Once you have the authorization code, you can begin the transfer process with your new registrar.

PRO TIP: If you leave Squarespace, you will no longer be able to keep your domain name.

If you registered your domain with another registrar before signing up for Squarespace, you can keep your domain name by pointing it to Squarespace’s DNS servers. To do this, you’ll need to change your DNS settings with your registrar.

Once you’ve made the changes, your domain will continue to resolve to your Squarespace site.

In either case, if you decide not to keep your domain name, it will expire and become available for anyone to register.
