How Do I Enable Cropping in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:29 pm

Cropping is one of the most basic and essential photo editing skills. It allows you to remove unwanted or excess parts of an image, and can help to improve the composition and focus of a photo.

In Photoshop, there are a number of different ways to crop an image, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

The first way to crop an image in Photoshop is to use the Crop Tool. The Crop Tool is located in the Tools palette, which is usually on the left-hand side of the screen.

To use the Crop Tool, select it from the Tools palette, then click and drag on the image to select the area you want to keep. When you’re happy with your selection, press Enter (or Return) to confirm the crop.

One advantage of using the Crop Tool is that it allows you to view your selection as you’re making it, so you can get a good idea of how the final image will look. However, one disadvantage is that it’s easy to accidentally select too much or too little of an image when using the Crop Tool.

PRO TIP: Warning: Enabling cropping in Photoshop may result in unwanted changes to your images. Cropping can alter the composition of your image, and may cause unwanted artifacts.

Another way to crop an image in Photoshop is to use the Marquee Tool. The Marquee Tool is located in the same place as the Crop Tool, in the Tools palette.

To use the Marquee Tool, select it from the Tools palette, then click and drag on the image to select the area you want to keep.

The advantage of using the Marquee Tool is that it’s very precise, so you can easily select exactly what you want to keep in an image. However, one disadvantage is that it’s easy to accidentally select too much or too little of an image when using the Marquee Tool.

Whichever method you choose for cropping an image in Photoshop, make sure that you take care not to accidentally delete any important parts of the image!

To enable cropping in Photoshop, go to Image > Crop or press C on your keyboard. You can also use other Selection tools such as Marquee or Lasso to make a selection around what you want to crop out before going Image > Crop.
