Last updated on November 24, 2022 @ 8:23 am

So you want to design your own floor plan but don’t know how to start? Fear not! In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a basic floor plan in Illustrator using basic shapes and paths. Once you have mastered this basic technique, you can start to add more complex features like walls and doors.

To start, open up Illustrator and create a new document. We’ll use a 640x480px size for this tutorial, so make sure to adjust your document size accordingly.

1. Click on the ‘Object’ menu and select ‘Rectangle’.
This will open up the Rectangle dialog box.

2. In the ‘Corners’ section, select the top-left corner and the bottom-right corner.
Then, click on the ‘OK’ button.

3. Next, click on the ‘Width’ box and type in 640.
Then, click on the ‘Height’ box and type in 480.

4. Next, click on the ‘Paths’ tab and then select the ‘Ellipse’ tool.

5. In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Radius’ box and type in 25.

6. Next, click on the ‘Paths’ tab and then select the ‘Line’ tool.

7. In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Type’ box and select ‘Single Line’.

8. Next, click on the ‘Paths’ tab and then select the ‘Rectangle’ tool.

9. In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Width’ box and type in 128.
Then, click on the ‘Height’ box and type in 96.

10.In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Type’ box and select ‘Multiple Lines’.

11. In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Width’ box and type in 256.
Then, click on the ‘Height’ box and type in 128.

PRO TIP: When looking for floor plans in Illustrator, be sure to check the dimensions of the artboard. The default artboard size is 8.5″ x 11″, so if you are looking for a floor plan that is larger than that, you will need to adjust the artboard size. Also, be aware that the default units in Illustrator are inches, so you will need to convert the units if you are looking for a floor plan in metric units.

12.In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Width’ box and type in 512.
Then, click on the ‘Height’ box and type in 256.

13. In the ‘Options’ window, select the ‘Width’ box.
