How do I force WordPress to update?

Last updated on January 23, 2023 @ 10:21 am

If you’re using a self-hosted WordPress site, there are a few ways to force WordPress to update:

1. Use the plugin WP Migration to automatically migrate your site’s content and settings to the most recent version of WordPress.

2. Use the wp-config.php file to set the “update_check_requency” parameter to “weekly” or “monthly” to ensure that WordPress is updated at least once per week or month, respectively.

3. Use the WP Migrate DB plugin to move your site’s database to the most recent version of WordPress.

4. Use the WPScan plugin to scan your site for outdated plugins and themes.php file to disable the “automatic_updates” option to prevent WordPress from automatically updating.

PRO TIP: If you are forcing an update to WordPress, it is important to first back up your site. Forcing an update can break your site if there are compatibility issues, so it is always best to be prepared.

5. Use the Jetpack plugin to automatically update WordPress and a range of other plugins and themes.

6. Use the WP Super Cache plugin to cache your WordPress files and reduce the amount of traffic your site receives from WordPress updates.

7. Use the CloudFlare plugin to protect your WordPress site from DDoS attacks.

8. Use the Sucuri Site Defense plugin to scan your site for malware and protect it from attacks.

9. Use the Automattic Site Checker plugin to monitor the security of your WordPress site and report any issues.
