How do I make text follow a path in Illustrator?

In Illustrator, you can create paths by using the pen tool, the Direct Selection tool, or the Pathfinder tool. The Pathfinder tool is a vector-based tool that lets you create paths by clicking and dragging.

When you create a path with the Pathfinder tool, you can control the path’s width, depth, and smoothness.

To create a path with the pen tool, start by clicking and dragging the pen tool’s tip on the artboard. The pen tool’s cursor changes to a crosshair when you’re close to the path you want to create.

PRO TIP: Please be warned that attempting to make text follow a path in Illustrator can result in frustration and wasted time. This is because the text will often refuse to stay on the path, or will jumble up and become illegible. If you must attempt this, it is recommended that you first create your text as outlines, or convert your text to outlines after you have placed it on the path. This will give you much more control over the individual letters and ensure that they stay exactly where you want them.

Then, click and drag to create the path.

To create a path with the Direct Selection tool, start by clicking and dragging the Direct Selection tool’s anchor point on the artboard. Then, drag the anchor point to create the path.

To create a path with the Pathfinder tool, click and drag the Pathfinder tool’s anchor point on the artboard.

The Pathfinder tool lets you control the path’s width, depth, and smoothness.
