How Do I Put One Layer on Top of Another in Photoshop?

There are a few ways to stack layers on top of each other in Photoshop. The most common way is to use the ‘Layer’ menu at the top of the screen, and selecting ‘New’ and then ‘Layer.’

This will create a new layer that appears above the currently selected layer in the layer stack. You can also drag and drop layers in the layer stack to rearrange them.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with the Photoshop software, you should not attempt to put one layer on top of another. This can result in irreversible damage to your image file.

Another way to add a layer on top of another is to use the ‘Duplicate Layer’ function. To do this, right-click on the layer you want to duplicate in the layer stack, and select ‘Duplicate Layer.’ This will create an exact copy of that layer that appears directly above it in the layer stack.

You can also create new layers by using the ‘Create a New Layer’ button at the bottom of the Layers panel. This will create a new, blank layer that appears on top of all other layers in the document.

Finally, you can add a layer mask to any layer by clicking on the ‘Add Layer Mask’ button at the bottom of the Layers panel. This will add a white rectangle next to the layer thumbnail in the Layers panel, indicating that there is a layer mask attached to that layer.
