If you accidentally delete an Illustrator file, you can restore it from a backup. Illustrator files are saved as .ai files. To restore an Illustrator file, open the file in Illustrator and choose File > Backup.

First, if you do not have a backup of your files, you may not be able to recover them at all. Secondly, even if you do have a backup, the process of recovery can be quite complicated and time-consuming. Choose where you want to save the backup, and choose File > Save As. In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the file, and choose Illustrator (*.ai) from the Format drop-down list. Click Save.
