How Do I Remove Shopify From My URL?

PRO TIP: If you are considering removing Shopify from your URL, it is important to note that this could have negative consequences for your store. Your store will no longer be hosted on Shopify’s servers, and you will need to find another hosting solution. Additionally, your domain name will no longer be associated with your Shopify store, and you will need to update any marketing materials or links that point to your store. Finally, if you have any apps or integrations that rely on your Shopify URL, they may no longer work properly after you remove Shopify from your URL.

If you’re using a Shopify-powered website, there’s a good chance that your website’s URL (or web address) includes “myShopify.com” in it. For example:

While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, some website owners prefer to have a URL that doesn’t include “myShopify. If that’s the case for you, there are a few different ways that you can go about removing “myShopify.com” from your URL.

One way to remove “myShopify.com” from your URL is to enable Shopify’s domain forwarding feature. This feature allows you to forward your myShopify.com domain to another domain that you own. For example, if you own the domain “example.com”, you can set up domain forwarding so that visitors who go to “example.com” are automatically redirected to your myShopify.com store.

To enable domain forwarding, log in to your Shopify admin and click on “Domains” in the left-hand sidebar. Then, click on the Forwarding tab and enter the domain that you want to forward your myShopify.com domain to. Once you’ve done that, click on the “Save” button and your myShopify.com domain will now be forwarded to your other domain.

Another way to remove “myShopify.com” from your URL is to buy a custom domain from Shopify and use that as your primary domain for your store. A custom domain is a unique and branded URL for your store (like “example.com”) that replaces your myshopifydomain name (like “example-store-name-here.myShopify.com”).

You can buy a custom domain directly from Shopify or transfer an existing domain to Shopify from another registrar.

If you’re using a third-party DNS provider (like Cloudflare, DNSimple, or Amazon Route 53), then you’ll need to update your DNS settings after buying or transferring your custom domain so that it points to your Shopify store.

To remove “myshopify,” from your shop’s URL, log into the admin area of your shop and under Online Store > Preferences > check the box next to Use SSL which will change the shop’s URL from HTTP to HTTPS.

HTTPS is a more secure protocol than HTTP, and most modern browsers will display a warning message if someone tries to access an HTTPS page via HTTP.
