How Do I Reset a Smart Object in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 11:44 pm

If you’re working with smart objects in Photoshop, you may occasionally need to reset them back to their original state. This can be useful if you’ve made changes to a smart object that you later decide you don’t want, or if you want to start over from scratch with your editing. Luckily, resetting a smart object is a relatively simple process.

First, open the smart object in Photoshop. You can do this by double-clicking on the smart object layer in the Layers panel. This will open the smart object in a new window.

PRO TIP: If you are resetting a smart object in Photoshop, be careful not to accidentally delete the layer that contains the smart object. If you do delete the layer, you will also delete the smart object and all of its associated data.

Next, go to the Edit menu and choose “Revert.” This will reset the smart object back to its original state. You can then close the window and save your changes.

That’s all there is to it! Resetting a smart object is a quick and easy way to undo changes or start over from scratch. Just remember to save your changes before closing the window.
