How Do I Rotate an Image in Photoshop Without Rotating the Canvas?

There are a few different ways that you can rotate an image in Photoshop without rotating the canvas. One way is to go to Image > Image Rotation > 180. This will rotate the image clockwise by 180 degrees. Another way is to go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 CW.

This will rotate the image clockwise by 90 degrees. You can also use the same process to rotate the image counterclockwise by 90 degrees by going to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 CCW.

Another way to rotate an image without rotating the canvas is to use the Free Transform tool. To do this, go to Edit > Free Transform, or press Ctrl+T (Windows) / Command+T (Mac). Then, click and drag one of the corner handles of the bounding box around the image.

As you drag, you’ll see the image rotate. You can also enter a specific degree of rotation in the options bar at the top of the screen. Once you’re happy with the rotation, press Enter (Windows) / Return (Mac) to apply it.

PRO TIP: When rotating an image in Photoshop, be sure to check the “Constrain Proportions” and “Auto-Select Layer” options in the Transform tool options bar. Otherwise, you may end up rotating the entire canvas, which can be difficult to undo.

If you want to fine-tune the rotation of an image after you’ve already applied it, you can use the Warp tool. To do this, go to Edit > Transform > Warp, or press Ctrl+T (Windows) / Command+T (Mac), and then click on the Warp icon in the options bar.

Then, click and drag on the image to warp it. You can also enter a specific degree of warp in the options bar.

Finally, if you need to rotate an image by a precise amount, you can use Photoshop’s Measure tool. To do this, go to View > Show > Rulers, or press Ctrl+R (Windows) / Command+R (Mac).

Then, click on the Measure tool in the toolbar and click on two points in the image that you want to use as reference points. Photoshop will then display the angle between those two points in the options bar at the top of the screen. You can then enter a specific degree of rotation in the options bar and press Enter (Windows) / Return (Mac) to apply it.
