How Do I Set a Minimum Order on Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 4:03 am

If you’re running a Shopify store, you may have noticed that there’s no built-in way to set a minimum order amount. This can be a problem if you have products that are low-priced or if you offer discounts that bring the total order value below your desired minimum.

Fortunately, there’s a workaround that will let you set a minimum order amount in Shopify. Here’s how it works:

1. Go to the Online Store > Themes section of your Shopify admin.

2. Find the theme you’re currently using, and then click the Actions button and select Edit code.

3. In the Edit HTML/CSS page, look for the Assets folder and open the theme.scss.liquid file.

4. Find the line of code that says /* Add your CSS here */ and add the following code below it:

5. @media only screen and (min-width: 750px) {
#cart {
min-height: 500px; // or whatever height you want } } Save your changes and preview your store to make sure everything is working as expected.

That’s all there is to it! Now you know how to set a minimum order amount in Shopify.

PRO TIP: If you are setting a minimum order on Shopify, be aware that there is a risk that your customers will not be able to meet the minimum order and will be forced to cancel their orders. There is also a chance that your customers will be unhappy with the minimum order and will leave negative feedback about your store.
