How Do I Smooth My Pores in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:01 am

Welcome to our tutorial on how to smooth pores in Photoshop! Whether you have large pores, or just want to make your skin look flawless, there are a few easy steps you can follow using Photoshop’s retouching tools.

We’ll show you how to use the Spot Healing Brush and the Clone Stamp Tool to quickly reduce the appearance of pores, as well as how to blur pores for a more subtle effect. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Open your image in Photoshop and create a new layer. This will be our “working layer” where we do all of our retouching. That way, if we make a mistake, we can easily go back and start again.

Step 2: Select the Spot Healing Brush Tool from the toolbar on the left. Then, set your brush size to be slightly larger than the pore you’re trying to fix. In our example, we’re going to be retouching this large pore on the cheek, so we’ve set our brush size accordingly.

Step 3: With your brush size set, simply click once over the pore you want to fix. The Spot Healing Brush Tool will automatically sample surrounding skin tones and texture to blend away the pore. You may need to do this a few times for larger pores.

Step 4: For smaller pores or areas where the Spot Healing Brush Tool isn’t quite doing the trick, we can use the Clone Stamp Tool. Select this tool from the toolbar on the left and then set your brush size to be slightly smaller than the pore you’re trying to fix.

Step 5: To use the Clone Stamp Tool, simply Alt+Click (Windows) / Option+Click (Mac) on an area of skin that has similar tone and texture to the area you’re trying to fix. Then, release the Alt / Option key and click and drag over the pore you want to fix. The Clone Stamp Tool will copy the sampled skin tone and texture over top of the pore, effectively blending it away.

Step 6: Once you’re happy with how your skin looks, it’s time to blur any remaining pores for a more subtle effect. Go up to the Filter menu at the top of Photoshop and choose Blur > Gaussian Blur..

Step 7: In the Gaussian Blur dialog box that opens up, set your Radius value to be somewhere between 1-2 pixels. This will depend on both your image resolution and personal preferences. Click OK when you’re done.

Conclusion:

That’s it! Those are some quick and easy ways to reduce or blur pores in Photoshop. As always, practice makes perfect so experiment with these techniques on different images until you get comfortable with them.

PRO TIP: This article provides tips on how to smooth pores in Photoshop, but it is important to note that over-smoothing can result in an unnatural look. It is therefore advisable to use these techniques sparingly and with caution.
