How Do I Transfer My Domain From DreamHost to Wix?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:59 am

If you’re moving your website from DreamHost to Wix, you don’t have to give up your DreamHost domain name. You can keep your domain name and point it to your new Wix site. When you point your DreamHost domain to Wix, visitors who go to your domain will see your Wix site.

Here’s how to point your DreamHost domain to Wix:

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

1. Log in to your DreamHost panel. 2. In the DNS menu, click Add on the right side of the panel. 3. In the ‘Add a DNS Record’ window, select A Record from the Type drop-down menu. 4. Enter @ in the Name field and the IP address of your Wix site in the Value/Points To field. The IP address is displayed in the Settings tab of your site’s dashboard on Wix.com (you must be logged in to see it). 5.

Click the Add Record button to save your changes. 6. Now you need to change the nameservers for your domain so that it uses DreamHost’s instead of Wix’s. To do this, log in to your Wix account and go to the Domains tab of your dashboard. 7. Click on the gear icon next to the domain you want to change and select Manage Domain from the drop-down menu that appears. 8. In the Nameservers section, select Custom from the drop-down menu and enter these three nameservers:
ns1.dreamhost.com ns2.com ns3.dreamhostcom
9. Click Save when you’re finished.

PRO TIP: If you are considering transferring your domain from DreamHost to Wix, be aware that there is no guarantee that your website will continue to function as it does currently. Additionally, your domain could be subject to new DNS settings and may experience downtime during the transfer process.

That’s it! Once these changes propagate (which can take up to 48 hours), visitors will see your Wix site when they go to your DreamHost domain.
