How Do You Animate a Component in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 8:29 pm

Animated components are a great way to add some life and personality to your Figma designs. In this article, we’ll show you how to animate a component in Figma.

There are two types of animations in Figma: frame-by-frame and interpolated. Frame-by-frame animations are created by manually adding keyframes to your design. Interpolated animations are created by specifying start and end values for your properties, and Figma will automatically generate the in-between frames.

To animate a component in Figma, first select the component in the Layers panel. Then, click on the Animate button in the toolbar.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Figma, or animation in general, this article may not be for you. The author assumes a level of knowledge and familiarity with the software that may not be possessed by everyone.

In the animation panel, you can add keyframes for position, size, rotation, opacity, and color. To add a keyframe, click on the property you want to animate and then click on the Add keyframe button.

Once you’ve added your keyframes, you can use the playback controls to preview your animation. You can also adjust the timing of your keyframes by clicking and dragging them left or right in the timeline.

When you’re happy with your animation, you can export it as a GIF or video file by clicking on the Export button in the bottom-right corner of the panel.

That’s all there is to animating components in Figma! By using keyframes and interpolation, you can add some fun and interest to your designs.
