How Do You Apply Gradient to an Image in Figma?

Figma is a great design tool for creating beautiful user interfaces, and one of its most powerful features is the ability to apply gradients to images. You can use gradients to add depth and interest to your designs, and they’re especially useful for creating realistic backgrounds and buttons.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to apply gradients to images in Figma. We’ll also give you some tips on how to use gradients effectively in your designs.

Applying a gradient to an image in Figma is easy. First, select the image. Then, click on the “Fill” option in the toolbar at the top of the screen.

Next, click on the “Gradient” option in the fill menu. This will open up a new menu with several options for configuring your gradient.

The first option is the “Type” of gradient. Figma supports two types of gradients: Linear and Radial. Linear gradients flow from one side of the image to the other in a straight line, while Radial gradients start from a central point and spread outwards in a circular pattern.

The next option is the “Direction” of the gradient. You can choose from four different directions: top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right, or right to left.

The next two options are the “Start” and “End” colors of the gradient. You can either click on the color swatches to select a color, or you can enter a hex code directly into the field.

Finally, you can adjust the “Opacity” of the gradient using the slider below. When you’re happy with your settings, click on the “Apply” button to apply the gradient to your image.

Now that you know how to apply gradients to images in Figma, let’s take a look at some tips on how to use them effectively in your designs.

When using gradients in your designs, less is often more. A subtle gradient can add just enough depth and interest to an element without overwhelming other design elements.

If you’re using multiple colors in your gradient, be sure to use colors that complement each other well. You can use a color wheel or color scheme generator like Adobe Color CC to help you find complementary colors.

Keep your gradient colors within the same family (light colors or dark colors) for a more cohesive look. Mixing light and dark colors can create an interesting effect, but it’s important not to go too overboard or it will start to look chaotic.

PRO TIP: When applying a gradient to an image, be sure to use the layer mask function. Otherwise, your gradient may not show up properly on the image.
