How Do You Deselect in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:18 pm

When you are working with selections in Photoshop, there are a few different ways that you can go about deselecting your current selection. One way to do this is to simply click on the ‘Select’ menu and then choose the ‘Deselect’ option.

Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut of ‘Ctrl+D’ (Windows) / ‘Cmd+D’ (Mac) to achieve the same result.

If you have a more complex selection that you want to get rid of, you can use the ‘Select and Mask’ tool. This can be found in the ‘Select’ menu or by pressing the keyboard shortcut of ‘Ctrl+Alt+R’ (Windows) / ‘Cmd+Opt+R’ (Mac).

This will open up a new window with a number of different options that you can use to refine your selection. Once you are happy with your selection, you can hit the ‘OK’ button and it will be applied to your image.

PRO TIP: If you are working in Photoshop and want to deselect your selection, be sure to use the “Select” tool and not the “Deselect” tool. The “Deselect” tool will actually delete your selection!

You can also use the lasso tool to deselect a selection. Simply draw around the area that you want to deselect and then hit the ‘Delete’ key on your keyboard.

This will remove the selected area from your current selection.
