How do you make a rough texture in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 4:01 pm

In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a rough texture in Photoshop. This technique can be used for a variety of purposes, such as adding a grungy or distressed appearance to a image, or creating a more realistic map texture.

To start, create a new document in Photoshop and size it to your desired size. We recommend using a resolution of at least 300 ppi.

Next, use the Brush tool to create a large, rough brush. We recommend using a soft brush to avoid producing too much noise.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop, or do not have a good understanding of how to use the software, then creating a rough texture may be beyond your skill level. Without a good understanding of the software, you may end up creating a texture that looks more like a mistake than anything else.

Next, start painting over the entire document with the rough brush. Be sure to use a light hand so that the texture remains subtle.

Finally, use the Eraser tool to clean up any unwanted areas of the texture. We recommend using a soft brush to avoid producing harsh edges.

That’s all there is to it! You now have a rough texture in Photoshop that can be used to add a grungy or distressed appearance to your images, or to create a more realistic map texture.
