How Do You Release a Component in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 12:42 am

When you release a component in Figma, it means that you are making it available to other people to use in their designs. You can release a component by selecting the component in the Library, and then clicking the “Release” button in the top-right corner.

When you release a component, you can choose to make it available to everyone in your organization, or just to specific people. If you make it available to specific people, they will be able to find it in the “Released Components” section of the Library.

If you make a change to a released component, everyone who is using that component will automatically get the updated version. This is one of the benefits of using components – if you need to make a change, you only have to do it in one place, and everyone will get the updated version.

When you release a component, it is locked and cannot be edited. This ensures that everyone is using the same version of the component.

If you need to make a change to a released component, you can create a new version of the component. To do this, select the component in the Library, and then click the “Create Version” button in the top-right corner.

Creating a new version of a released component will not affect anyone who is using the old version – they will continue to use the old version until they choose to update to the new version. This allows you to make changes without affecting everyone immediately.

The process for releasing and updating components is one of the things that makes Figma so powerful for collaborating on design projects. By making components available and keeping them up-to-date, you can save yourself and your team a lot of time and effort.”
