How Do You Use Special Characters in Squarespace?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 6:57 am

There are two ways to use special characters in Squarespace. The first is to use the HTML entity code for the character. The second is to use the Unicode character.

To use the HTML entity code, you will need to know the code for the character you want to use. A list of common entity codes can be found here: http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm. Once you have found the code for the character you want to use, you can add it to your Squarespace page by typing &# and then the code for the character; for example, & for an ampersand (&).

To use the Unicode character, you will need to know the hexadecimal code for the character you want to use. A list of common Unicode characters and their codes can be found here: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/00a9/index. Once you have found the code for the character you want to use, you can add it to your Squarespace page by typing &#x and then the code for the character; for example, © for a copyright symbol (©).

Using Special Characters in Squarespace

There are two ways that you can use special characters in Squarespace:

  • By using HTML entity codes
  • By using Unicode characters

HTML Entity Codes

In order to use HTML entity codes, you will need to know what the code is for the specific character that you want to add into your Squarespace website. You can find a comprehensive list of all common HTML entity codes here. Once you have located the correct code, all you need to do is add it into your Squarespace website by typing &# and then followed by the HTML entity code.

PRO TIP: When using special characters in Squarespace, be aware that some characters may not display correctly on all browsers. Additionally, some characters may not be compatible with all Squarespace features. If you are having trouble using a special character, we recommend contacting Squarespace support for help.

For example, if we wanted to add an ampersand (&) onto our website, we would type & into ourSquarespace webpage.

Unicode Characters

Alternatively, if we wanted to use a Unicode character, we would again locate the correct hexadecimal code for that specific character on this list. After finding our desired character, we would type &#x and then followed by that Unicode character’s hexadecimal code.

For example, if we wanted to add a copyright symbol (©) on our website using a Unicode character, we would type ©.

There are two ways that you can insert special characters into your Squarespace website – either by using HTML entity codes or Unicode characters. By knowing either of these two methods, you’ll be able to spruce up your website with all sorts of different symbols!
