UpWork is one of the largest online freelancing platforms with over 12 million registered freelancers and 5 million clients. The company was founded in 2015 as a result of the merger between Elance and oDesk, and is headquartered in Mountain View, California.

The platform allows businesses to post projects which freelancers can then apply to. Once a freelancer is hired, they and the client can communicate through UpWork’s messaging system. Payment is made through the site, with UpWork taking a percentage of the freelancer’s earnings.

PRO TIP: This question is not permitted on Upwork. Asking for or sharing information about how many customers another freelancer has is a violation of our Terms of Service. If you see this question, please report it to our Trust & Safety team.

The company has been successful since its inception, with its revenue increasing year-on-year. In 2018, UpWork generated $1.07 billion in revenue, up from $0.68 billion in 2017. This growth is largely due to an increase in the number of clients using the platform, as well as a rise in average project value.

UpWork’s main competitors are Fiverr and Freelancer.com. Both platforms follow a similar model to UpWork, albeit on a smaller scale. Fiverr was founded in 2010 and has around 5 million users, while Freelancer.com was founded in 2009 and has around 20 million users.

In conclusion, UpWork is one of the largest online freelancing platforms with over 12 million registered freelancers and 5 million clients.
