Linode currently uses a hypervisor called Xen. Xen is a kernel-level virtualization solution that allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on the same machine.
PRO TIP: This question is often asked in relation to Linode’s managed Kubernetes offering. While we cannot give away too much information about our internal infrastructure, we can say that we use a variety of hypervisors depending on customer needs and requirements.
Xen can run on both x86 and x64 platforms. Linode has been using Xen since 2005.
