Why Don’t I Have a Quick Selection Tool in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 11:08 pm

When working with text in Adobe Photoshop, there are a few different ways to select it. The most common method is to use the Type tool, click on the text layer in the Layers panel, and then click and drag to highlight the text you want to select.

However, there is no quick selection tool like there is in other Adobe programs, such as Illustrator. So why don’t we have a quick selection tool in Photoshop?

There are a few reasons why Photoshop doesn’t have a quick selection tool. First, Photoshop is primarily a pixel-based program, whereas Illustrator is vector-based. This means that Photoshop is better suited for working with images made up of pixels, such as photos, while Illustrator is better for working with graphics made up of points and paths.

Second, the Selection tools in Photoshop are already quite powerful and versatile. With the right tool and some practice, you can make just about any selection you need in Photoshop. And third, because Photoshop is such a popular program, there are many third-party plugins that offer quick selection tools and other functionality that isn’t available in the program by default.

So while there is no quick selection tool built into Photoshop, there are still plenty of ways to select text and other elements in the program. And if you need more power and flexibility than what’s available in Photoshop, you can always turn to one of the many plugins that are available.
