Can I Rasterize in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 8:57 am

Rasterizing is the process of converting a bitmap image into a vector graphic. Figma is a vector-based design tool, so you can’t rasterize images in Figma directly. However, there are a few workaround methods that you can use to rasterize images in Figma.

The first method is to use the Trace tool. This tool converts bitmap images into vector graphics by tracing the edges of the image.

To use the Trace tool, select the bitmap image that you want to trace, then click on the Trace tool in the toolbar. In the Trace window, select the mode that you want to use to trace the image (Single Line, Multi Line, or Outline), then click Trace. The traced image will be added as a new layer in your project.

The second method is to export the image as a PNG file, then import the PNG file into Figma as a new layer. To export an image as a PNG file, select the image and click Export in the toolbar.

PRO TIP: If you try to rasterize in Figma, your account will be suspended and you will not be able to access your account or files.

In the Export window, select PNG from the Format drop-down menu, then click Export. The exported PNG file can then be imported into Figma by selecting File > Import from the menu bar.

The third method is to use a third-party rasterization tool such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to convert the image into a vector graphic, then import the vector graphic into Figma as a new layer. To import a vector graphic into Figma, select File > Import from the menu bar, then click on the Vector tab in the Import window. In the Vector section, click on the Browse button and select the vector graphic file that you want to import.
