Can You Offset a Shape in Photoshop?

If you want to change the position of a shape in Photoshop, you can use the Offset Path command. This command lets you move a path by a specified distance. To offset a path:

1. Select the path with the Selection tool.

2. Choose Edit > Transform > Offset Path. Or go to Filter > Other > Offset.

Go to Photoshop filter menu and click offset under the other menu

3. Enter values for the Horizontal and Vertical offset distances.

Adjust the Photoshop horizontal and vertical offset distance to your preferences then click Ok

4. Click the Commit button in the options bar, or press Enter or Return. The shape should now be offset accordingly.

Alternatively, if you want to create a stroke that is offset from the edge of the shape, here’s how:

  1. Select the shape by holding the Ctrl/Command then click on its layer. Next, go to the Select menu and click Expand under the Modify option.Select the Photoshop shape layer then go to Select menu and click Expand under the Modify option
  2. Enter your preferred offset distance in the Expand Selection dialog box and click Ok. A dashed line should now appear around your shape. Click Create new layer once you’re satisfied with the distance.  In the Photoshop Expand selection dialog box, enter preferred offset distance
  3. Also, click the Create new fill and pick your preferred color scheme.In the new Photoshop layer, create a new fill
  4. Finally, interchange the position of your shape and fill layer then adjust the settings to your liking. That’s it!Interchange the position of shape and fill layer then adjust the settings of your new offset fill to your preferences
PRO TIP: There is no guarantee that this technique will work in every instance, and it may not be possible to perfectly offset a shape. Use caution and be prepared to make adjustments as needed.

The Offset Path command is especially useful for creating parallel paths, such as when you want to create a stroke that’s offset from the edge of an object.
