There are a few different ways to overlay two images in Photoshop, and the method you use will depend on the desired final result. One way to overlay images is to use the layer mask function. You can continue to adjust the transparency of the top image by painting more or less with the Brush tool. When you’re happy with the result, save your file and you’re done!
Another way to overlay two images in Photoshop is by using blending modes. Blending modes allow you to control how one layer interacts with another layer below it. To use blending modes, first make sure both of your images are open in Photoshop and that they’re on separate layers.
Then, select the top layer and go to Layer > Blending Mode > Screen. This will cause the top image to appear only where it is lighter than the image below it; all of the dark pixels will become transparent.
If you want more control over which parts of each image are visible, you can add a layer mask to one or both of the layers before changing the blending mode. For example, if you add a black layer mask to the top layer and then change its blending mode to Screen, only those parts of the top image that are lighter than black will be visible.
You can experiment with different blending modes to see which one gives you the results you want. When you’re happy with your composite image, save it and you’re done!
If you are not careful, you can end up with two images that are misaligned. When you are finished, check your work to make sure the images line up perfectly.
