Can You Outline Text in Photoshop?

Yes, you can outline text in Photoshop by using the ‘Stroke’ layer style. To do this, simply select the text layer you want to outline in the Layers panel, then click on the ‘fx’ icon at the bottom of the panel. From the list of layer styles that appears, select ‘Stroke’.

This will open the Layer Style dialog box, which will allow you to customize the appearance of your text outline. The first thing you need to do is select a color for your outline from the ‘Color’ drop-down menu.

Then use the ‘Size’ slider to adjust the thickness of the stroke. Finally, you can use the ‘Position’ drop-down menu to choose whether the stroke should be inside, outside, or center of your text layer.

Once you’re happy with how your text looks, simply click ‘OK’ to close the Layer Style dialog box and apply your changes.

PRO TIP: While it is possible to outline text in Photoshop, it is not recommended unless you are an experienced user. Outlining text can be tricky and if not done correctly, can result in distorted or unreadable text.

Adding an outline to your text can help it stand out against a busy background or add a bit of flair to an otherwise plain design. And luckily, Photoshop makes it easy to do! So next time you need to add an outline to some text in your design, remember how easy it is with the ‘Stroke’ layer style.
