How Do I Change My Primary Domain Shopify?

If you’re using Shopify’s default domain, then you can change your primary domain by going to Online Store > Domains in your Shopify admin. From there, you can either buy a new domain or transfer an existing domain to Shopify.

If you’re using a custom domain, then you can change your primary domain by going to Online Store > Domains in your Shopify admin.

Here are the steps to changing your primary domain on Shopify:

Changing your primary domain can have unintended consequences for your store, such as breaking links to your products and pages, and affecting your search engine ranking.
  1. Log into your Shopify admin
  2. Click on Online Store > Domains from the left-hand menu
  3. Click on the Primary Domain drop-down menu and select the new primary domain
  4. Click Save

That’s it! Your new primary domain will now be live on your shop.

Note: If you’re using a custom domain, then you’ll need to update your DNS settings before your new primary domain will work. For more information on how to do this, please see our custom domains documentation.
