How Do I Copy a Format in Figma?

Last updated on December 23, 2022 @ 2:53 pm

There are many ways to copy a format in Figma.

  • One way is to use the Format Painter tool.
  • Second way is to use the CSS Properties panel.
  • And yet another way is to use the Inspect mode.

The Format Painter tool is the easiest way to copy a format in Figma. Simply select the object with the format you want to copy, then click the Format Painter button in the toolbar.

Then, click on the object you want to apply the format to. The format will be applied instantly.

The CSS Properties panel is another way to copy a format in Figma. Select the object with the format you want to copy, then open the CSS Properties panel (right-click on the object and select “CSS Properties” from the menu). Click on the “Copy” button, then open the CSS Properties panel for the object you want to apply the format to and click on the “Paste” button.

PRO TIP: When copying a format in Figma, be aware that any existing styles on the destination layer will be replaced by the copied styles. This could potentially cause unexpected changes to your design.

You can also copy a format using Inspect mode. Select the object with the format you want to copy, then click on the “Inspect” button in the toolbar (or press Ctrl+Shift+I).

In Inspect mode, hover over the property you want to copy and click on the “Copy” button that appears. Then, select the object you want to apply the format to and click on the “Paste” button that appears.

Whichever method you choose, copying a format in Figma is quick and easy!
