How do I enable free SSL on HostGator?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 7:01 pm

HostGator provides a free SSL certificate for all of its customers. This certificate is enabled automatically for all new accounts. To enable free SSL on HostGator, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your HostGator account.

2. In the header section of the page, click the blue “SSL” button.

3. Click the “Settings” tab.

4. In the “SSL” section, click the “Get a free SSL certificate” link.

5. Click the “Get certificate” button.

6. Enter your account information and click the “Submit” button.

7. The HostGator team will send you an email with the certificate file.

You will need to upload the certificate to the web server where your Site is hosted.

PRO TIP: If you enable free SSL on HostGator, your website may become inaccessible to some users. This is because free SSL certificates are not always compatible with all browsers and devices. If you do not have a paid SSL certificate, we recommend that you do not enable free SSL on your website.

8. Click the “Activate SSL” button on your Site.

9. The SSL certificate will be enabled.
