How do I import an image into Adobe Illustrator?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 7:16 pm

An image can be imported into Adobe Illustrator in a number of ways. The most common way is to use the File > Import > Image command.

This command opens the Import Image dialog box, where you can select the file to import and specify the location of the file. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+I (Windows) or Cmd+I (Mac) to open the Import Image dialog box.

If you want to import an image into a specific document, you can use the File > Import > File As command. This command opens the Import File As dialog box, where you can select the file to import and specify the location of the file.

PRO TIP: When importing images into Adobe Illustrator, be sure to use the “Place” function rather than the “Open” function. The “Open” function will embed your image into the Illustrator file, which can cause your file size to increase significantly.

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) to open the Import File As dialog box.

The Import Image dialog box also includes a number of other options, such as the ability to change the image’s resolution, format it, and convert it to a different type of file. You can also use the dialog box to add metadata to the image, such as the file’s name and the time it was created.

When you’re finished importing the image, you can close the dialog box by clicking the OK button. Alternatively, you can save the image to a location by clicking the Save button.

Finally, you can close Adobe Illustrator by clicking the File > Exit command.
