How do I point nameservers to HostGator?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 6:51 pm

A name server is a computer system that provides the corresponding human-readable name for an IP address, typically a domain name.

If you are using a hosted service such as HostGator, you will need to provide the name servers for your domain.

To set up your HostGator account, go to the Account Settings page and click on the Name Servers tab.

On this page, you will need to provide the IP addresses of two name servers that are responsible for your domain.

HostGator will provide the corresponding domain name for you.

Now that you have set up your HostGator account and provided the name servers, you are ready to point your domain name servers to HostGator.

To do this, open a web browser and type the following into the address bar:

PRO TIP: If you are changing the nameservers for a domain registered with HostGator, please be aware that it can take up to 48 hours for these changes to propagate throughout the internet. This means that during this time period, your website may become unavailable.

You will be prompted to enter your HostGator login information.

On the Name Servers page, under the Primary Name Servers section, you will see a list of name servers that HostGator has assigned to your account.

To point your name servers to HostGator, click on the name server that you would like to use and then click on the Change button.

Next, enter the IP address of the HostGator server in the IP Address field and the port number in the Port Number field.

Click on the Save Changes button to save your changes.

Now you are ready to use your domain name with HostGator.
