How Do I Remove a Managed Domain From Shopify?

If you’re using a Shopify-managed domain, you can remove it from your shop at any time from your shop’s Domains page.

To remove a Shopify-managed domain:

  1. From your shop’s admin, go to Online Store > Domains.
  2. Click the x next to the domain that you want to remove.
  3. In the dialog that appears, click Remove domain.
  4. If you’re using DNSimple for your DNS settings, then you need to delete the DNS records for your Shopify-managed domain from your DNSimple account. For more information, see Deleting DNS records from DNSimple.

Deleting a Shopify-managed domain does not automatically delete the corresponding Custom Domain add-on from your shop. If you want to remove the Custom Domain add-on as well, then you need to delete it from your shop’s Apps page.

To remove a Custom Domain add-on:

  1. From your shop’s admin, go to Apps.
  2. Click Delete next to the Custom Domain add-on.
  3. In the dialog that appears, click Delete app.

How Do I Remove a Managed Domain From Shopify?

If you have a Shopify-managed domain and wish to remove it from your shop, follow these steps:

PRO TIP: If you are planning to remove a managed domain from your Shopify account, please be aware that this action cannot be undone. Once you have removed the domain, you will no longer be able to manage it or use it with your Shopify account. Please be sure that you really want to remove the domain before taking this action.
  1. Log into your shop’s admin panel and go to Online Store > Domains. Find the domain that you wish to remove and click on the next to it.
  2. A dialog box will appear asking if you are sure you want to delete the domain. Click on Remove Domain. The domain will now be removed from your shop.
  3. If you are using DNSimple for your DNS settings, you will need to delete the DNS records for your Shopify-managed domain from your DNSimple account. For more information on how to do this, see our article on deleting DNS records from DNSimple
  4. Deleting a Shopify-managed domain does not automatically delete the corresponding Custom Domain add-on from your shop. If you want to remove the Custom Domain add-on as well, then you need to delete it from your shop’s Apps page.
  5. From your shop’s admin panel, go to Apps
  6. Click on Custom Domain
  7. Click on “Delete App” in the confirmation dialog box that appears.
