How Do I Transfer a Domain to Another Squarespace Site?

Last updated on December 25, 2022 @ 2:29 pm

There are two ways to transfer a domain to another Squarespace site. The first way is to use the Domain Manager to initiate a transfer.

The second way is to change the DNS settings for your domain to point to the new Squarespace site.

Option 1: Use the Domain Manager

If you’re using the Domain Manager to manage your domain, you can initiate a transfer from there. To do this:

  1. Log in to your Domain Manager.
  2. Click the domain you want to transfer.
  3. Click Transfer Domain in the left sidebar.
  4. Enter the email address of the new owner in the Recipient Email Address field.
  5. Select I’m giving this domain as a gift or I’m transferring it as part of a business deal, then click Continue.
  6. On the next page, select Yes, I have read and agree to the terms, then click Initiate Transfer.

Conclusion:

Once you initiate the transfer, an email will be sent to the new owner with instructions on how to complete it. The whole process usually takes about five days.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to transfer a domain to another Squarespace site, please be aware that there are some potential risks involved.

Firstly, if you are transferring a domain that is already registered with Squarespace, please note that your current site will be temporarily unavailable during the transfer process. Secondly, please also be aware that there is a small risk that the transfer may fail, in which case you will need to contact Squarespace support for assistance.

Finally, please note that once a domain has been transferred to a new Squarespace site, it cannot be transferred back to the original site. Therefore, we recommend that you carefully consider all of these factors before initiating the transfer process.
