How Do I Turn Off Snap to Grid in Figma?

Last updated on January 29, 2023 @ 9:18 am

Grid systems are a fundamental part of web design, they provide a structure for designers to align and position content on a page. Figma is a vector-based design tool that allows designers to create designs for the web, mobile, and desktop.

One of the great things about Figma is that it offers a “Snap to Grid” feature which makes it easy to align content to a grid. However, there are times when you may want to turn off this feature. Here’s how:

1. Open your project in Figma. There, you can see the “Snap to grid” feature options of Figma under the Design tab at the top-most section.

2. To turn off the “Snap to grid” feature of Figma, you can simply click outside the frame with no other elements selected, and it will no longer be available in the Design tab.

NOTE: Just click on a frame or element again if you want to turn on the “Snap to grid” feature.

That’s all there is to it! Now when you move this frame or layer around, it will no longer snap to the grid. This can be handy if you’re trying to create something that doesn’t fit perfectly into a grid system or if you’re working with images that don’t need to be aligned to a grid.

PRO TIP: If you are working in Figma and want to turn off Snap to Grid, be aware that this may cause your objects to appear misaligned. Make sure to check your work carefully before publishing.

In conclusion, turning off Snap to Grid in Figma is easy: simply click outside of the frame to deselect any other elements or frames and this will turn off the Snap to Grid option in the Design tab. With just a few clicks, you can break out of rigid grid structures and explore your creativity!
